What is Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a wholistic system of health care that is comprised of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Massage, cupping, moxa & dietary therapy. TCM works by regulating and strengthening the bodies natural functions and re-balancing any deficiencies or excesses. TCM focuses on addressing the underlying causes for your health condition, as well as providing relief from symptoms. In this way, it is effective in the treatment as well as the prevention of many acute and chronic health conditions.
Is TCM safe?
Yes. Only single use pre sterilized acupuncture needles are used, and all herbal products comply to guidelines set by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. (TGA)
Is Acupuncture painful?
Not usually. You may feel a slight sensation when the needle is inserted, or you may feel nothing at all. Many people report feeling a dullness or warmth around the needle site and often experience deep relaxation during the treatment.
Is TCM suitable during pregnancy?
Yes. It is an effective drug free treatment for pregnancy related conditions such asmorning sickness, back pain, carpal tunnel and oedema. It is also well known for turning breech babies.Emma works closely with your midwife or obstetrician with a careful and comprehensive approach.
Is TCM suitable for babies and children?
Yes. Emma has been trained in specialised pediatric acupuncture, where extremely small needles are used and only inserted for less than a second. She is also qualified in Shonishin or childrens needles, which does not involve needles. For acute conditions, recovery is generally very quick and improvement noticable almost immediately.
Are herbs suitable during an IVF cycle?
No. Emma does not prescribe herbs during a stimulated cycle where other western drugs are used.
What does a TCM treatment involve?
An initial consultation lasts for approximately 1 1/2 hours and follow ups are 1 hour. Emma will need to ask you a series of questions including your past and current medical history, current medications and duration, nature and location of your illness. A tongue and pulse analysis is also part of the diagnostic process. Usually treatment involves a combination of Acupuncture, Herbs and massage, which are tailored to your individual needs.
Can I claim rebates from my health care provider?
Yes. Emma is a registered provider with most private health funds. HICAPS is availble for on the spot claiming. Other claims can be done online or at your nearest office.
